Mona & Kamran — Areias do Seixo Wedding | Destination Wedding Portugal

An Intimate Destination Wedding at Areias do Seixo, Portugal

On May 24, 2025, Mona and Kamran celebrated their wedding at Areias do Seixo, surrounded by dunes, pine trees and the Atlantic Ocean on Portugal’s west coast.

There is something immediately distinctive about this place. Contemporary architecture sits quietly within the landscape, while sand, vegetation, ocean light and open skies create an atmosphere that feels both intimate and completely connected to nature. Areias do Seixo describes its own setting through exactly these elements: pine trees, dunes and sea, with nature at the centre of the experience.

Mona and Kamran’s wedding reflected that character beautifully. The day felt relaxed and elegant, but never overly formal. There were emotional moments, spontaneous laughter, quiet gestures between family and friends and the kind of energy that can only happen when people are genuinely present in the celebration.

As a destination wedding photographer in Portugal, I am always interested in how a place can become part of a story without overpowering the people within it. At Areias do Seixo, the landscape naturally becomes part of the photographs. The textures of the architecture, the movement of the vegetation and the changing Atlantic light create a visual language that is very different from photographing a palace or a traditional wedding estate.

My approach throughout Mona and Kamran’s wedding was to observe first and direct only when the moment called for it. Most of the photographs came from what was naturally happening around them, while a smaller number of portraits allowed me to explore composition, light and the distinctive surroundings of Areias do Seixo.

The result is a wedding story that moves between documentary photography and a refined editorial sensibility, preserving not only the beauty of the location, but the emotion, personality and atmosphere of the people who filled it.

Areias do Seixo, Where Nature Becomes Part of the Wedding Story

Located in Póvoa de Penafirme, A dos Cunhados, Areias do Seixo is set among dunes, pine trees and the Atlantic coast. The venue was created around a close relationship with nature, and its architecture, landscape and sense of privacy give weddings here a character that is immediately recognisable. The property officially hosts weddings and celebrations, with nature forming a central part of the experience.

For wedding photography, what makes Areias do Seixo particularly interesting is the variety contained within such a coherent setting. Minimal architectural lines can create more graphic and editorial photographs, while the surrounding landscape invites something quieter, softer and more spontaneous. As the light changes throughout the day, the same place can feel completely different.

That visual freedom was especially important in Mona and Kamran’s story. Their photographs move naturally from intimate moments to larger celebrations, from unplanned emotion to more intentional portraits, while always remaining connected to the place where the wedding happened.

For international couples considering a destination wedding in Portugal, Areias do Seixo represents a very particular side of the country. It is not about monumental architecture or formality. It is about landscape, design, intimacy and the Atlantic coast.

And that is what I wanted these photographs to preserve.

Not simply where Mona and Kamran were married, but what it felt like to be there with them.
