A Timeless Destination Wedding in the Heart of Chianti, Tuscany

Danielle and Matthew celebrated their wedding at Castello Vicchiomaggio, surrounded by vineyards, rolling hills and the unmistakable landscape of Chianti in Tuscany.

Set above the Greve Valley, near Florence, the castle brings together history, architecture and countryside in a way that feels immediately connected to the identity of Tuscany. Its stone walls, Renaissance garden, courtyard and views across the vineyards give every part of a wedding a different visual atmosphere.

Danielle and Matthew chose a setting that felt elegant and historic, but also warm and deeply connected to the landscape around them. Their celebration moved naturally between intimate moments, quiet anticipation and the energy of family and friends gathered together in one of Italy’s most recognisable wedding regions.

For me, photographing a destination wedding in Tuscany is not simply about using the landscape as a beautiful background. The place has to become part of the story without overpowering the people within it.

At Castello Vicchiomaggio, that relationship happens naturally. The architecture creates strong lines and texture, the vineyards and hills soften the visual language, and the changing Tuscan light gives the photographs a completely different character as the day unfolds.

I joined this wedding alongside Italian photographer Daniele Torella, documenting Danielle and Matthew’s celebration with the same approach I bring to every wedding: observing first, allowing moments to happen naturally and creating more intentional portraits only when the rhythm of the day allows it.

The result is a story that moves between documentary wedding photography and a more editorial sensibility, preserving not only how the celebration looked, but the atmosphere, emotion and sense of place that surrounded it.

As a destination wedding photographer, I am particularly drawn to weddings where architecture, landscape and people come together in a way that creates a visual identity of its own. Tuscany is one of those places.
