Ana & Luís | A Portuguese Wedding at Solar de Pancas
Ana and Luís are a Portuguese couple living in Ireland who chose to return to Portugal to celebrate their wedding surrounded by family, friends and the places that still feel like home.
Their celebration took place at Solar de Pancas, in Alenquer, a historic wedding venue set in the countryside north of Lisbon. The property combines traditional Portuguese architecture, ivy covered façades, courtyards and gardens, creating a setting that feels elegant without losing its sense of intimacy. The venue is located around 25 minutes from Lisbon and is dedicated to weddings and private celebrations.
For Ana and Luís, returning to Portugal for their wedding gave the day another layer of meaning. Although their life is now in Ireland, the celebration brought together people, memories and connections from different parts of their lives in one place.
That emotional dimension is always important to me when photographing couples who live abroad and choose Portugal for their wedding. The country is not simply a destination. For many Portuguese couples living internationally, it is also a return to family, identity and familiarity.
As a destination wedding photographer in Portugal, I approach these celebrations in the same way I approach every wedding: observing first, allowing the day to unfold naturally and creating more intentional photographs only when the rhythm of the celebration gives us space to do so.
Solar de Pancas offers a particularly interesting visual balance. The historic architecture and symmetrical courtyard create strong compositions, while the gardens, vegetation and softer spaces around the property allow the photography to become more relaxed and spontaneous.
Throughout Ana and Luís’s wedding, I was drawn to that contrast. Quiet moments between the couple, reactions from family and friends, the ceremony, the conversations and the energy of the celebration all became part of the story.
My goal was never simply to show that the wedding happened at a beautiful venue.
It was to preserve what it felt like for Ana and Luís to come back to Portugal and celebrate this chapter of their lives with the people who matter most to them.
Solar de Pancas | A Wedding Venue in Alenquer near Lisbon
Located in Alenquer, Solar de Pancas is a wedding venue surrounded by traditional architecture, gardens and several different spaces that can be used throughout a celebration. The venue offers exclusive use of the property for events and can accommodate celebrations of different sizes.
From a photographic perspective, one of the most distinctive elements of Solar de Pancas is the variety of visual environments within the same property. The ivy covered façade, stone details, central courtyard and gardens create very different possibilities without losing the architectural identity of the venue.
The ceremony setting in particular works beautifully because of its symmetry and simplicity. The historic building provides structure and character, while the open courtyard leaves enough space for the people and emotion of the ceremony to remain at the centre of the photographs.
Being close to Lisbon also makes Solar de Pancas particularly interesting for couples who want to celebrate outside the city while remaining connected to it.
