Ana & Alain | A Destination Wedding at One& Only Royal Mirage Dubai
Ana and Alain celebrated their wedding at One& Only Royal Mirage, one of Dubai’s most distinctive luxury resorts, where Arabian inspired architecture, gardens and the coastline create a setting with a visual identity of its own.
Their celebration was designed and organised by Rui Mota Pinto, whose approach to weddings goes far beyond decoration. His work is built around creating complete experiences through atmosphere, rhythm, culture and emotion, making every celebration feel deeply connected to the people at its centre.
For Ana and Alain, that vision came together in a wedding that felt immersive from the moment guests arrived. Every space, detail and transition contributed to the experience, from the architectural character of the resort to the lighting, floral design and energy of the evening celebration.
One& Only Royal Mirage is particularly interesting photographically because Dubai is present in the wedding without having to dominate it. The resort combines strong architectural lines and intricate interiors with gardens, open spaces and the proximity of the Arabian Gulf. That variety creates very different visual possibilities within the same celebration.
My approach was to allow the scale and sophistication of the wedding to exist alongside the smaller moments that made the day personal.
The design deserved to be photographed carefully, but so did the glances, gestures, conversations and reactions happening around it.
That balance is central to the way I photograph destination weddings. The setting can be extraordinary, the production can be ambitious and the visual world can be spectacular, but the photographs still need to feel human.
Ana and Alain’s wedding moved naturally between those two dimensions.
There was grandeur, colour and dramatic design, but there was also intimacy, emotion and the unpredictable energy of people genuinely enjoying the celebration around them.
The result is a wedding story where editorial imagery and documentary photography coexist, preserving both the extraordinary visual world created for the day and the people who brought it to life.
One& Only Royal Mirage | A Luxury Wedding Venue in Dubai
Located in Dubai, One& Only Royal Mirage is a beachfront resort known for its Arabian inspired architecture, landscaped gardens, private beach and collection of spaces designed for weddings and celebrations.
The resort offers several environments for events, from intimate courtyards to gardens and larger outdoor spaces such as Al Koufa Fort, the Oval Garden and Amphitheatre. This allows a wedding to move through very different atmospheres without leaving the property.
From a photographic perspective, this variety is one of the strongest qualities of the venue.
Architectural details and richly designed interiors allow for more structured and editorial compositions, while gardens and open spaces create a softer setting for spontaneous moments and portraits. As evening arrives, lighting and event design can completely transform the character of the same location.
That transformation was an essential part of Ana and Alain’s wedding.
The celebration was designed and planned by Rui Mota Pinto, bringing together space, atmosphere and emotion as parts of one experience rather than separate decorative elements.
For me as a photographer, that level of creative direction creates an interesting challenge. The goal is not simply to document how beautiful everything looked.
It is to show how people experienced it.
The anticipation before the celebration, the reactions as guests entered each space, the energy of the party and the quieter interactions between Ana and Alain all became part of the same visual narrative.
